Summary: An autistic man is on Oceanic 815...
A/N: Ever since seeing a Dutch police tv show where the suspect was an autistic boy, I've been wondering what if there was an autistic man on Oceanic?
1.
The plane crashes and the man falls into the ocean. He is thrashing around wildly, shouting for help, screaming in his own language as he drowns and loses consciousness... when he believes that there is a beautiful blonde-haired mermaid who wraps her arms around him and brings him to shore.
Jack Sheppard is the one who finds him on the shore. "What's your name?" he asks.
His eyes are wide open. "Pretty mermaid... saw a pretty mermaid... saved me... from drowning..." the man's lips form a grin as he wraps himself in a bundle with his arms and rolls around, thrashing here and there. "Why did she go? Why she leave me alone?" he asks the doctor as tears fall from his eyes like crying is the most used thing he does every day.
Jack decides to take special care of him... as if he isn't already taking special care of everyone who also crashed here on this weird place.
2.
The team expanded with the arrival of the Losties from the tail section. They captured Henry Gale and keep him in the armory. The man has to push the button... but he does not use the computer. Oh no, he is in own world until the alarms start beeping. He starts screaming when the sound pierces his ears, and Locke is the one who ends up pushing the button after he has inserted the numbers and pressed execute. Locke reprimands the man by hurting him.
"You could have had us all killed!!! Is that what you want you imbecile?!"
"I sorry! I want see pretty mermaid again!" the man sobs as he rocks himself in his usual routine.
Jack comes there to comfort him again, and presses a syringe into the man's arm so he relaxes.
3.
He is captured along with Jack, Kate and Sawyer. They are set to work when the man has another episode attack. He drops the rock he has to cut into pieces and trashes around wildly while Ben orders Juliet to shoot him. Jack intervenes and asks them not to. Another Other slams the barrel of his rifle down on the man's back and he is out for the count while Jack, Kate and Sawyer plead not to kill him.
He wakes up in a room with the blonde Other.
"You look just like... blonde mermaid. Are you her?" The man asks as tears cloud his vision.
The woman shakes her head. "No, I'm not. My name is Juliet Burke... but tell me all about this pretty blonde mermaid that you have claimed to have seen..."
4.
He's in the same Institution as Hurley, having made it off the Island with him, so it is not the Oceanic Six, but the Oceanic Seven. He couldn't even attend the press conference of being one of the Survivors of Oceanic Flight 815... they deemed him too crazy. The man is also visited by Locke, who says they have to return. He starts screaming in his room when he remembers this is the man who beat him for not pushing the button in the hatch. Still he goes on and on about a pretty mermaid, try to beat it out of him and it's still there.
They (Ben, Jack, Kate, Sun, Sayid and Hurley) along with that same man board the Ajira plane to go back to the Island and save the others. He's in the same predicament as everyone else except Sun, she is the only one that doesn't get a flash.
5.
They are back in 1977 and need to mingle with the Dharma Initiative to get their friends back. Miraculously he doesn't start sprouting tales about a pretty blonde mermaid or even the Swan Station or the Arrow Station or all those other stations. All goes to hell when the bomb is detonated and they are transported back to their original timeline...
6. Island.
It's not the same mantra of a pretty blonde mermaid anymore. No, that one has changed into another one. "Juliet go boom." he repeats over and over until Sawyer loses it and starts to pummel him. "Shut the fuck up you idiot! Do you think I like to be reminded of the fact that my girl went boom?!"
Another kick to the face and a kick in the shins. "I sorry for Juliet go..." Sawyer grabs him and places a hand over the man's mouth, the thought of killing this man by snapping his neck like a twig a very enticing thought, but he changes his mind. "Someone got any tape?!"
They succeed in taping his mouth shut.
He has another episode attack at the Temple, but nobody can calm him down. Not even the Templars. Not even the flight attendant Cindy.
His tape got roughly pulled by his own hands and he starts his mantra of pretty mermaid again, rolling around on the Temple floor.
They finally get off the Island and the small group that has boarded the plane is shocked by what he orders them to do.
"Open exit door. Me jump in sea, be with pretty blonde mermaid." he pleads them over and over with that same smiling face... until Crazy Claire knocks him down with the barrel of her rifle.
"Thanks for shutting him up, sweetcheeks." Sawyer says. "We'll get him the help he needs."
6. Flash-Sideways.
He is sitting on the plane of Oceanic Flight 815 with his doctor in the seat next to him.
He's drawing a picture of a pretty mermaid with blonde hair. He's not drawing the breasts very big, but not very small either.
A blonde woman walks by and sees him draw. "Why, that's a pretty picture."
He stops drawing and looks at her, his mouth is drooling as he does so.
"What do we say then?" his doctor asks.
"Thank... you..." he says, smiling to the blonde girl who looks just like the mermaid in this picture.
The doctor pulls the drawing away before a part of his drool can touch the piece of paper. He grabs a handkerchief and dabs at his patient's face.
"I'm sorry, he has been through a rough experience." his doctor tells the blonde girl.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," the young woman says and wants to go, when the man grabs her hand. "Mermaid..." he says, his big eyes looking at her.
"Let her go. She is not the mermaid in your picture. You've never even met her." his doctor says when there a gasp on both faces when flashes show them that she is the mermaid who saved him.
Laura yanks his hand away from hers and kind of hurries down the aisle.
When there is the slight tremor, the man looses it and yells that they are going to crash.
"Was I bad, just like my daddy was to me?" he asks his doctor as he cries.
He can still remember the cause of his craziness from his own father who used his belt on his body and who hurt him sexually when he was bad.
"You just don't do that to strangers, Jan. You weren't as bad as your daddy, but it was a bad thing."
"Are you going to punish me?" he asks, fearful he is going to do the same things as daddy did to him.
When the plane lands, he gives his patient a hug. "No, I would never do a thing like that."

He's permitted leave to attend the concert. Daniel Widmore and Drive Shaft. The names sound really familiar, and he is more than happy when he meets the pretty blonde woman again that he met on the plane.
"This is for you." Jan says as he gives her the drawing he had made on the plane where thankfully no drool had fallen on.
"Thank you." Laura says and takes it from him, when more memories start to flash by. It's actually all of his memories, Laura doesn't feature in any of them, but the pretty blonde mermaid is mentioned time and time again, except for the one time when he changed it to Juliet go boom.
Tears are on Jan's face as he looks at Laura. "You are her." he whispered as they embrace.
He's released into her care, even though she has been shown that he is totally over his craziness.
