Ugh, this Dreamwidth Cut Button sometimes…

I make sure it's covered and then after posting the WHOLE message appears right under the cut visible for everyone to see without eve(n)(r) needing the cut!

That sucks :/ I've not had that happen to me (yet!). I'm not sure how you're doing it but I only ever do it manually, so typing the cut between the angle brackets < > with or without the additional "cut text="thing you want the text to say" option. I know on LJ you can highlight the text and then press a cut button, is that similar here?
If it keeps happening, maybe contact support or check to see if others are having the same problem? The admins on the site are really helpful and friendly from when I have had issues :)
Hope you can sort it out.

Dreamwidth's rich text editor is notoriously funky... I've had a lot of issues with it in the past >:T If you're comfortable with some basic html, I definitely recommend using the html post editor over the rich text one. It's a lot more reliable and gives you a lot more control over how your posts turn out.

It looks like you do have to highlight the text you want under the cut, but like meridan_rose said, the <cut> tag works wonders. DW's FAQ entry on cuts is pretty informative!
